At your average baseball game, you can find fans watching the game while enjoying a hot dog, pretzel, or a beer. But at Walker Stadium, the home of the Portland Pickles, fans now have the option to enjoy the game while drinking an ice cold can of THC.
In a groundbreaking move that blends sports, entertainment, and the evolving landscape of cannabis legislation, the Portland Pickles have become the first professional sports team in the United States to offer THC-infused seltzers at their home games after signing a historic partnership with the cannabis brand Cycling Frog back in June.
At $8 a can, fans 21 and over can purchase THC Seltzers in passionfruit and lemon flavors at Dillon’s Hideaway Bar, the Jack Daniels Party Deck Bar, and inside the entrance gates of the stadium. This innovative decision marks a significant moment in both the sports and cannabis industries, reflecting broader shifts in societal attitudes and the ongoing evolution of stadium experiences.
The summer minor league team, that recently beat the Wenatchee AppleSox on August 16th for their first WCL Championship title, have always been known for their unique approach to the sport.

From their quirky team name to their vibrant, community-centric approach, the Pickles have always stood out in the world of minor league baseball. This latest development is a testament to their commitment to innovation and their willingness to embrace the changing times.
The partnership not only aligns with Oregon’s progressive cannabis laws but also reflects a broader trend towards integrating cannabis into mainstream entertainment and leisure activities.
The introduction of these beverages at games aims to enhance the overall fan experience. THC seltzers are a relatively new addition to the cannabis market, offering a refreshing and low-calorie alternative to traditional cannabis consumption methods.
Infused with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis, these beverages provide a controlled and enjoyable experience for consumers. Specially, Cycling Frog’s seltzer contain about two milligrams of THC and four milligrams of CBD, which many fans consider to be just the right amount.
When interviewed by the local news station, KPTV, fans of the team mentioned that the drinks are crisp and “refreshing on a warm day” and one fan even mentioned that it’s “less calories than a beer.” As the stigma surrounding cannabis continues to dissipate, the Pickles’ move could prompt discussions about how cannabis products can be responsibly integrated into various entertainment settings, including other sports arenas and concert venues. Moreover, this development reflects a broader trend towards personalization and diversification in fan experiences.
As teams seek to differentiate themselves and enhance their appeal, integrating unique and contemporary offerings could become a key strategy in attracting and retaining fans. The organization’s VP of Business Development believes that the team has a responsibility to take leaps and create new partnerships in the sports industry.
After becoming the first sports team to partner with a CBD company back in 2019, the Pickles’ actions lead to many other teams following suit in the five years since and they are very proud to provide alternative options at their home games with Cycling Frog Products for their fans and Portland locals.

Cycling Frog’s VP of brand marketing expressed similar enthusiasm, stating that they are thrilled to be making history with the team and that Cycling Frog believes that cannabis consumption should be accessible, normalized, and fun! And what could be more normal and fun than going to a game to cheer for the local team?
Overall, the stadium’s foray into selling THC seltzers is more than just a novel idea; it’s a reflection of evolving cultural norms and a forward-thinking approach to sports entertainment. As the Pickles make history, they not only set a precedent for other teams but also contribute to the ongoing conversation about the role of cannabis in modern society.
Fans and industry observers will be watching closely to see how this initiative unfolds and whether it inspires similar moves in other sports and entertainment venues. For now, the Portland Pickles stand out as pioneers, blending baseball with a refreshing twist on cannabis culture and setting the stage for a new era in sports fan experiences.
For now, only time with tell if other sports venues are willing to take a swing at THC-infused seltzers and other marijuana products or if they’ll end up striking out and what could be an entire new business opportunity.
