From time to time we feature talented poets who have a lot to say. This is the poetry of Debra Murphy.
Dreams of Utopia
In realms beyond sleep I journeyed
To a peaceful, golden land
An earthly paradise
Where rivers flowed abundantly
In harmony and joy
And hills rung with laughter
Rising carefree like bubbles
From the children of Utopia
Standing between worlds
Of sleep and wakefulness
In my dreams of Utopia I knew
This place was home
My primal origination
And that rather than awakening
From the dream
I could awaken within it
Eye Of The Beholder
They say beauty
Is in the eye of the beholder
But to see beauty
Only here, only there
In such conditional fashion
Seems somehow short sighted
What if, instead
We could see
Through the eyes of God
Would we not then
See beauty everywhere?
Heart Thief
Heart thief snuck in…
My well guarded citadel
Couldn’t stop him
My inner chambers
Held no resistance
Heart thief snuck in
Caught up the ruby gem
And stole away with my heart

Is This Not A Miracle?
Do you believe in miracles?
Consider this
You are a miracle
Living a miraculous life
Look at yourself
Within your own body
Trillions of processes
Go on every second
Each part knowing
The actions of every other part
At any given time
Is this not a miracle?
Look at your world
Do you see only wrong?
Open your eyes!
Plants grow and blossom
Life is birthing all around you
Constantly renewing
Can you see beauty
In the unfolding rose?
Is this not a miracle?
Look at your universe
The planets and stars
Cosmological terpsichoreans
Trip the light fantastic
Vast movements spanning eons
Even the chaos of the dance
Has it’s own beautiful order
Is this not a miracle?
Look at All Being
At dancing universe
Unfolding world
Knowing body
Can your mind grasp
The immensity of all that
While sitting here now
Reading these words?
Can you look upon All
Including Self
And know it is a miracle?
Perfect Mirrors Of Love Sublime
Oh, to feel what it’s like
Looking out through your eyes
Know how you see me
How you see yourself
Reflected in my eyes
I know they shine
As do your own
With soul-song rising
Divine union of spirit’s joy
Perfect mirrors of love sublime

The Tribe Is Calling
You there, in your ignorance
Thinking you’ve got it all together
Cornered the market on truth
Knowing what reality is
Adopted personal rules of conduct
Without question or discernment
Denying discomfort you feel
Refusing to look deeper within
Too much like work
You there, in your ignorance
Thinking you’ve got it all together
The Tribe is calling!
You there, with all the noise
Running through your head
The mental pandemonium
Of incessant buzzing thought
Chasing buzzing thought
Your mental dog won’t stop
Chasing its own tail
How can you hear Anything
With all the din and clamor?
You there, with all the noise
Running through your head
The Tribe is calling!
You there, thinking you know
What Love is all about
When conditionality has become
The foundation of your heart
And commitment only found
Within a legal document
Sanctioned by law and culture
Considered only half jokingly
As “ball and chain”
You there, thinking you know
What Love is all about
The Tribe is calling!
You there, chafing in your Soul
Feeling trapped and constrained
By the inner laws that run your life
And rigid behavior rules
Taken on without thought
You allowed the authority of others
To override your own
As if they had more right
To create your reality
You there, chafing in your Soul
Feeling trapped and constrained
The Tribe is calling!
You there, wandering sleepwalker
Living illusion’s greatest lie
Thinking this is all there is
What we can see and touch
Weigh and measure
And consensus reality is truth
Real because the “experts” say so
Why have you given them
Such enormous power?
You there, wandering sleepwalker
Living illusion’s greatest lie
The Tribe is calling!
You there, who want to awaken
And create your life with open eyes
What fears hold you back?
Is it exile from the mundane world?
The judgmental fingers pointing
And small minds thinking of you
Just another one of those “crazies” ?
Is it really worth the chains
And the chafing?
You there, who want to awaken
And create your life with open eyes
The Tribe is calling!
You there, who are ready to fly
To wear brilliant cloak of Light
Instead of gross physical matter
Open your ears and Listen
Calm your heart and Feel
There are guides to help you
When eyes are ready to see
You don’t walk this path alone
In darkness
You there, who are ready to fly
To wear brilliant cloak of light
The Tribe is calling!
You there, can you hear Us?
We are calling
You are and always have been
A part of the Tribe
And the cry you hear
Is Us calling you home
