This month I have been looking at a selection of CBX’s Sativa strains, as I have been taking a break from Indica strains, and smoking flower in general, for different reasons.

Having relied just on a couple of hits from a vape pen here or there, my tolerance levels have been a lot lower than normal, and this has allowed me to have a well-rounded perspective when it comes to examining each of these fine examples of day time strains.

So far I have looked at the old school favorite, Tropicanna, and the new kid on the block, Super Mango Haze. L’Orange is one of the very first strains from the original lineup Cannabiotix put out, and it’s interesting to see that it continues to be a top seller and remains available throughout the dispensaries in California.

A cross between the hybrid, Orange Crush, and Lemon Burst Phenotype #37, this very flower which is rich in citrus-based terpenes comes packaged with the motto “all good things take time”, due to how long it takes to mature, and this is fitting.

The high is described as cerebral, or “happy” with a buzzy kick to it, and is known to be good for relieving anxiety and depression, according to its marketing blurb.

But my experiences have been a little different with it, than the description offered there.

L’Orange is actually the very last flower in the CBX range that I tried, having waited it out every single time I saw it on sale, choosing another strain over this one every time. I suspect everyone has one of those things in a range of items of products they like to buy, or places they like to shop at, a bit like the Filet O’Fish at McDonalds. It’s something most people don’t seem to want or care about, meaning its existence is almost pointless.

When there were so many other incredible strains to try out, from the Modified Milk, Cherry Dairy, Haighuasca and Sublime Lime, to RPG (Rainbow Punch Gelato) and even Bubblegum at one point, albeit for a very limited time, there was just too much on offer to want something as seemingly basic as an orange-and-lemon based flower.

Personally, I am not usually the biggest fan of orange flavored terps; I don’t mind the lemon variety, or Limonene as I understand it to be called, but over the years I have enjoyed orange terps less and less.

This is where L’Orange caught me off guard. The first time I tried it, as the sun was setting, my expectations were understandably low, based on what I mentioned before, but it took me very much by surprise.

Just like the sun setting into the evening itself, I felt a lovely, soothing wave of relaxation starting from the head all the way down to my feet. It was very calming and mostly I felt a stronger body high than head high overall, during the phases afterward.

At work afterwards I found my thoughts drifting in a pleasant way, and the effects were wearing off within no more than a couple of hours. It’s a gentle, elegant example of a Sativa strain which is perfect for beginners, and those who want a slightly more pedestrian example of a flower.

It’s good for boosting appetite, but not in as strong a way as their other Sativa dominant strains, like Tropicanna or Super Mango Haze from my other reviews, and is good for elevating mood. I was even able to try using the odd hit here or there at night, although I don’t think it’s suitable or intended to be used during that time of day, and found myself falling into a pleasant sleep in my chair while watching TV for a few moments, which is a rare respite for me these days.

Little moments like that are what take it from an ordinary flower to a special one. As per the other examples I’ve reviewed in this series, due to its thick layers of resinous trichomes it burns like a dream in the bowl.

It’s a true crowd-pleaser, which is also known as the famous “Cali Orange”, an all-rounder, and a solid team player.

That’s where Cannabiotix really wins every time for me, with its signature soothing, holistic feeling to their flower, which often feels more medicinal in nature than recreational, hence why I am guessing they chose to name their company as such.

If you really are serious as a cannabis user and want the best of what is available, CBX is definitely the starting point on your journey, and it will most likely be where you return throughout this journey on many occasions the same way I have.

Dr. StrainLove is a longtime lover of fine weed and is always hunting for the latest and greatest strains.  His search has taken him from the Coffeeshops of Amsterdam to the boutique dispensaries of California, and lots of other places in between. He loves making music, playing video games, and using marijuana to ponder the mysteries of the universe. When he’s not doing those things, he enjoys spending time with his cat.
