It’s a great honor to be able to finally cover one of my favorite flowers I’ve discovered since moving from the UK to Los Angeles, Wedding Cake, which is unique for many reasons.
Wedding Cake was one of the most powerful Indica strains I came across in my early days of living here, but it’s been hard to find over recent years, I’ve rarely seen a cultivator get it right on the commercial market.
I’ve tried the Wedding Cake from Claybourne previously, but only in smalls form – the smaller and slightly less strong version of the premium offering – and it was good enough, but lately I’ve been seeing the company crop up on more and more menus, and now positioned as a top-shelf company rather than a mid-priced one, so I thought it was important to try the Wedding Cake again to see if it could live up to my high expectations.
I’m very happy to say this is a solid offering (apart from the price but we will come to that later), and I came away from the experience feeling very pleased with the choice I made to review it.

It’s a top notch flower, and the company itself has gone for a re-brand with these black coloured labels over glass jars, featuring bold large neon font. It’s quite similar to Blem’s packaging, but a little more smooth around the edges.
I was also pleased to see the genetics information clearly labelled on the rear of the packaging, which shows me this is an Indica dominant hybrid, with the lineage of Triangle Kush and Animal Mints. It’s 30% which is perfect for the strength level I want. I’ve seen Wedding Cake from different parentages before, so it’s interesting to see where this one has stemmed from.
When I open it, it’s got the hallmark aroma of what I want from it – a sweet, earthy funk, with just a little bit of creaminess to it. It’s very pleasing to inhale before you smoke it and I found myself doing that very often with this rather exceptional flower.
On inspection, it’s visibly very clean looking, very muscular, and quite hard to the touch, but not too hard. It features an impressive array of greens blended with oranges, enough to make me feel the humidity and appearance are in line with a top shelf flower. It’s been sealed nicely but I would like the seal to peel open rather than crack apart.
This is quite important because now Claybourne’s price is at the very top end of the market, even above other brands like CBX, and that’s an interesting place for a cannabis brand to go for, as not many seem to survive for long afterwards. Take a look at Alien Labs or Connected for example, who once charged around $100 per eighth, and more often now charge $35-50 after a change in ownership.

Anyway, upon smoking, it’s backed up by a really nice experience; incredibly smooth, even across the head and body, and packing an almighty punch in the power department.
It’s got a heaviness to the body high which is unmistakable, trademark Wedding Cake, and it’s more-ish, you just want to keep tasting its delights over and over again. It also bears a really lovely, pure euphoric feeling which bursts from nowhere and takes you by surprise.
After a few hits, only two or three, I feel like it’s time to get a good night’s sleep. And it provided exactly that. By daytime, on the wake and bake, it’s also very nice to start my day with in contrast to night, meaning it works as a great all-rounder flower, making it perfect for someone who enjoys using an Indica in the daytime for anxiety relief such as myself.
Also, I had a tooth extracted at the same time as I got this, which has been a two-year process I’ve been trying to get finished, and this felt like a very beautiful finishing point to that long difficult journey. I’ve been dealing with a huge amount of pain and recovery in the process, and this helped a lot.
It must be around two or three years since I tried a good Wedding Cake strain, or maybe longer.

Once you get into its minty, creamy and earthy terpenes, you’ll see why this has been an enormous hit in the community for so long.
I urge you to all try some for yourself, so you can experience its wonderful delights. I actually fantasise about this flower sometimes, just dreaming of how much I love it, so it’s been a great treat to find it and smoke it again.
That was only made possible by finding some at a delivery service which offered a substantial discount, so it won’t be too often I get to try it. I did see one other dispensary offer it for a 30% off deal, but that was only for one week, so if you see something like that you should definitely take advantage, otherwise this will cost you around $75 per eighth.
Try it for yourself, and I’m sure you’ll find yourself falling in love with it the same way I have.
